Weixing (Star) Zhang, PhD, is currently medicinal chemist at Roche. He received his PhD in medicinal chemistry from Fudan University, P.R. China. In 2004 he began work at Roche R&D Center (China) Ltd. as a scientist on different disease targets. Before 2004, he had ever worked as an organic chemist at Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry for 5 years.
As a drug hunter, Weixing has more than 10 years’ experience in the small molecule drug discovery. He has solid grasp of medicinal chemistry, strong experience in hit to lead optimization and proficient in SAR and ADME-PK analysis and structure-based drug design. He had been involved in several projects which were related to oncology and infectious diseases.
As a chemist, Weixing also has over ten years hands-on experience in design, execution and troubleshooting of multi-step synthesis of heterocycles and synthetic methodology development.
